Long Exposures and Light Paintings
This past winter I was out with my friend who wanted to do some night photography and also test out his latest light invention. So we figured what better way to do that than with some light painting. Just that past week we had found somewhere that would be perfect for the occasion. I had never actually done a light painting prior to that night, though I had always wanted to. We spent several hours in the balls freezing cold and tried out tons of different techniques, but in the end, the last shot we did was easily my favorite from that night. I was hooked on the concept of light painting and came up with several ideas and planned out ways to execute them to no avail.
That is until a couple of weeks ago, when me and my friend were out again at night looking for anything we could find to take pictures of. Eventually night fell and we started playing around with some light paintings, though this time around all we had at our disposal was a flashlight. Once again the last shot we took that night, well that I took that night, was hands down my favorite, even of my non-light paintings. We had no intention of taking the shots that we did until we actually got there and tried some things out. Some worked. Some didn't. It's all a part of the process of trying out new ideas and seeing where they take you, irregardless of intention. Maybe one of these days I'll actually do that one fourth of July shot I wanted to take...back when it was the fourth of July.
